Gators-Bulls game w/ Gary & Cyndi

On September 11th, 2010 - we went to the Gators-Bulls game in the Swamp...the first-ever meeting of our two favorite college teams. Don't be mistaken...Tammy and I bleed orange and blue so we KNEW what team we were cheering for, but we also are Bulls season ticket holders and enjoy the social aspects of hanging out with our friends who are USF alums while watching the Bulls when they are in Tampa. Due to the countless Bulls games that we have been to over the years, we often found ourselves confused...doing cheers for both teams sometimes, before we caught ourselves!

This was the HOTTEST day in Gainesville that I can remember. We strategically bought seats in the shade (note: shade for a noon game starts around row 85 in the west stands), but still people were passing out around us left and right. We probably drank five 20 oz drinks per person during the game just to keep hydrated!

Oh yeah, and the Gators ended up winning the game. The Gators had an anemic offense, but finally put it together in the third quarter.

Music for Costa Rica Mission Trip #3

CR3 Team,
Here are the Spanish songs that we need to have ready for the trip (there will not be a test, but there will be public humiliation...seriously):
  1. I Love You, Lord (Te Amo Rey) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Xr2mFbCKRc
  2. Open the Eyes of my Heart (Abre mis Ojos) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuUqlScTb5g
  3. We Fall Down (Nos Postramos) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGnPmgISRhA&feature=related
For the mission trip veterans, you get off a little easy on not having to learn any new songs in Spanish...but still take the time to dust off your Español all the same. For the lyrics in Spanish/English, please take a look at Greg's site: http://gregsmusicsite.weebly.com/costa-rica-group-songs.html

Also, with a new worship leader naturally comes some new songs. While I plan to spare you from learning a bunch of Skillet songs, please do throw these three songs on your iPod between now and the first week of October:

We [still] rock

Sure, we are nearing or slightly "over the hill" but we still love to rock. Tonight we headed out to a Skillet concert in Orlando. The show was HOT!!! ...in more ways than one. I'm pretty sure that the AC was not working, so it was more than slightly warm.

Jen Ledger, Skillet's drummer who stole the show all night long, improvised with an amazing drum solo to fill the time when one of Ben's guitars broke. Below is a small sample of the show...

Many thanks to Shelby for watching the girls while we went to the show. Jodi - YOU MISSED OUT!

1st Dance Class

Today was Bekah's 1st dance class. She seemed really excited all week, but anyone who knows Bekah knows she needs lots of encouragement to do anything she doesn't want to do! So I was concerned that she would get in there and freeze. Or maybe even want to quit entirely. We talked and practiced all week, and I let her wear her dance clothes the other day and got some great videos of her "dancing".

Dance #1

For more of her dances, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZEX6Nadd4U (notice the tongue) and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJG6iTa1eIE

All my fears were for nought! She did amazingly well at dance class! She listened to the teacher, obeyed, and generally had fun. When we were getting in the car, I told her how good she did. She said, "I know. I didn't even cry. It's because I loved it." :) Later in the car she said, "but now I know how to dance, so we don't need to go back." That lead into a great conversating on practicing things to get better and better. Here are some pics of her in dance class.

Left: All dressed up with her shoes in her bag Right: Trying to stand on toes like a "real" ballerina

Above: All girls are at back of class facing the teacher, but Bekah decided she should stay in front next to the teacher. :)

Trip to Brazil

In January Justin took a trip for business to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Below are some of the pics. I was really impressed by the architecture of the city, its pure size (bigger than NYC), and how nice the city was. Sure, there were poor sections of town...but overall it was a very metropolitan, modern city. Abraços!

Bekah Catches Her First (10) Fish!

Grammy and Pappy kindly took care of Bekah on 12/21 while Tammy and I hosted a Christmas party at out house. Grammy and Pappy just bought a new home by SR 675 in Myakka City that has a pond in the backyard. No one knew if the pond had fish and if it did how many fish it had. Bekah and Pappy were determined to find out!!!

Bekah quickly snagged her first fish (pic below) and subsequently went on to snag NINE MORE FISH over a period of about one hour!!! Her perspective on fishing will be clearly jaded for life!
